Training as a dental care professional

Stephen Rose films Dr Malas from Warrior Square Dental Practice in Hastings. Dr Malas talks about how his practice trains and supports dental care professionals such as dental nurses.

All dental care professionals (dental nurses and technicians) are required to be registered by the end of July 2008. For dental nurses who’ve already been working in the profession for a few years, this means that they can become registered by having their previous experience validated (recognised as equivalent to a qualification).

For new dental care professionals entering the profession now, they are required to demonstrate that they have an approved qualification, such as

NVQ in Oral Healthcare Level 3 or Certificate of Proficiency in Dental Nursing.
